One on one role play with Nick!

We’re post-war, a couple of years into my tenure at Castle Candy. In the kitchen, where Forrest Black has already become head chef, full reign of the kitchen.

An ambassador from Fructera is visiting—international relations are just beginning again after the war, and there’s a super important state dinner.

Perception check: 20 and 9, disadvantage so it’s a 9.

Forrest is running around in the kitchen—it’s not chaotic to him, but if anyone else were to encounter it they’d be horrified. He does NOT run a brigade kitchen, that’s for sure. On the 9 perception, he sees a laffy taffy woman patiently waiting right in the doorway—but he doesn’t see her until she coughs because he’s so focused on his cooking. She says that there’s been an unexpected addition to the guest list for tonight: Plumbeline Uvano. Not only that, but she has a request—she wants strawberry shortcake. Forrest doesn’t quite recognize who she is, but he certainly remembers Gustavo Uvano, and knows that Plumbeline isn’t his wife’s name. Forrest hurries over to the woman, pulling out a notebook and pencil and jotting down where she can find the ingredients for strawberry shortcake. He sends her to the second pantry (which is just a broom closet he’s filled with shelves of ingredients and to his smuggler under the drawbridge, with whom he has arranged the delivery of the freshest fruits from Fructera in advance of this dinner. She hustles out to go find the ingredients.

Some time later, she comes back with everything except for the strawberries. Colin Provolone, my go-to ingredient smuggler walks in. He apologizes that he wasn’t able to get his hands on any strawberries, but he does have a lead. Forrest is like, well I was just gonna tamper with these ones (he points to flawless-looking strawberries in the walk-in that nobody except Forrest would notice an issue with), but this is better. He glances over at his messy kitchen and says, “yeah, this is in a good spot,” and they head out.

Dulcington, a nearby town outside of the castle walls in Candia, it gets its share of travelers. Colin leads the way through some back alleys, quickly makes a sharp turn into a dark corner and whispers something to someone. Forrest follows, Colin motions to keep quiet, and we make a stealth check. With a 9+2, we have to move really slowly through this warehouse, heading up into the catwalk above. Up there, we have some extremely pure ingredients, but they’re heavily guarded. This is a smuggling house—someone is unlawfully dealing these ingredients. Colin’s like, these are some of my vendors, I couldn’t bargain a good deal from them, but I know there’s some good strawberries down there. Forrest uses Mage Hand—to the shock of Colin, but I know he’s not a narc—to perfectly snag the berries. Controlling the hand with a tinkered-with kitchen timer, and a 22 Sleight of Hand roll, we grab them and escape.

We return to Castle Candy, where the state dinner is a smash success! Plumbeline Uvano turns out to be the 3-year-old daughter of Gustavo Uvano, but Forrest doesn’t mind that we did all that for a toddler.
